Stargirl
by Jerry Spinelli
This summer I read a great book called Stargirl. It is about a very unique girl who is kind and good and loves to do random acts of kindness for others. She has always been home schooled and upon entering high school struggles to fit in with the rest of the students. The thing is she doesn't even care if she fits in. She is happy being who she is. She anonymously gives cards or gifts to people who need it and seems to appreciate beauty all around her. She wants to make other people feel special. By doing these simple deeds she is happy. Other kids are baffled by Stargirl and absolutely ignore her to try and force her to change. She has a boyfriend who struggles with fitting in with the other kids or being so happy with Stargirl and not caring about the treatment they receive. Read it yourself to find out what happens to Stargirl and her boyfriend. I loved the book. It reminded me how doing nice acts for people go a long way and make a difference. But that we make life a little too complicated when we don't understand other people. Let me know what you think and tell me about a book you read! (Don't give away the ending.)
